World's Ugliest Dog!

Good thing he probably doesn’t understand what everyone’s saying. Walle, a 4-year-old beagle/boxer/basset hound mix, won the top honor at the 25th annual World’s Ugliest Dog competition. One judge described the pup as looking “like he's been photo-shopped with pieces from various dogs and maybe a few other animals.” Walle’s owner, Tammie Barbee, knows it’s what’s inside that counts, and says she loves him dearly despite his unconventional looks. What do you think of Walle? Is he really the world’s ugliest dog? Do you have an “ugly” pet?

Iron Man Made Me Cry!

Poor kid! One young Iron Man fan got the let down of his life, when his mom promised he’d meet the superhero, but instead got the film’s star Robert Downey, Jr. The mother of 18-month old Jaxson Denno had heard the actor was filming his new movie near their Massachusetts home, so she decided to take her son to meet him, telling Jaxon specifically that he was going to see Iron Man. But when the young boy actually came face-to-face with his hero, it was only a clean-shaven Tony Stark, not the man in the suit. Heather Denno told People her son finally realized it was the same person when Downey spoke, but the picture she snapped documented Jaxson’s initial disappointment. Actually, Downey doesn't look very happy either, does he?!?

Oh, Deer!

Because we have such a large population of deer here in Wisconsin and Minnesota, we're always on the lookout for fun deer stories, and here's one from the Florida Keys: A deer in the Florida Keys is breathing more easily after a deputy removed a Doritos bag from its head! The Monroe County sheriff's deputy discovered the Key deer while on patrol late Saturday evening. Its entire head was stuck in the chips bag! Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin says the deer allowed the deputy to remove the bag without a struggle. By the way, in case you've never heard of Key Deer, they're the smallest of the Virginia white-tailed deer subspecies and are endangered. I guess this little guy must have seen all those Doritos commercials and just had to have some! Seriously, though, this is why it's so important to PICK UP YOUR TRASH!

Thank You, Thank You Very Much!

In his classic song, "All Shook Up," Elvis Presley sang about itching like a man on a fuzzy tree. Now, Elvis is really “branching out.” His kingly image has been spotted in an elm tree!
At least that's the claim of Brit John Rowley, who was driving in Herefordshire, England, and saw the tree that he thought looked remarkably like Presley in his young pre-Army stint, not his puffy Las Vegas incarnation of the 1970s. “I was just driving along one day and it stuck out like a sore thumb," Rowley said. “I’m not much of an Elvis fan, but I just noticed that unique quiff straight away and said, ‘That tree looks like Elvis.'" Elvis trees, like beauty, are in the eye of the beholder. While Rowley thinks the Elvis elm is a "treemendous likeness," it may be a matter of perception than a real depiction of Presley. What do you think? I see the profile, but really it could be Abraham Lincoln just as easily as Elvis, right?
